(BEDFORD, NH) — Since June 20, 1970, New Hampshire company TRM Microwave has been a key innovator in the field of RF and microwave technology. TRM’s driving focus remains the science of radio frequency and supplying custom engineered components and subsystem solutions for the aerospace and defense industries.
“The backbone of TRM Microwave has consistently been the ingenious, inventive subject matter experts on our team, whose custom innovations have helped make this country safer through their contributions to defense systems,” TRM Microwave CEO Wendy Tirollo, said.
TRM Born of Independent Spirit
TRM Microwave began as Technical Research and Manufacturing Inc. in June 1970, started by Tony Tirollo. He began developing high-end components for cable television. When a larger competitor filed suit over ownership of new technology Tony developed, the case went to federal court. Tony won and the news ended up in The Wall Street Journal, shining a global light on the company.
The company pivoted markets from CATV to defense, becoming TRM Microwave, and in 1992, moved to a larger facility in Bedford, NH. Tony married Wendy Tirollo in 1998. After serving as Director of Human Resources for 10 years, Tony asked Wendy if she would consider running the business.
In 2010, Wendy became CEO and Tony became CTO, allowing him to devote his time to the technical work he loved. In June 2015, ownership was passed to Wendy and TRM celebrated dual milestones - its 45-year anniversary and becoming a certified Woman-Owned Small Business. On May 21, 2016, the company's beloved founder, Tony Tirollo, passed away.
“Tony’s spirit lives on through TRM’s Legacy plan, a long-term strategy for sustainable business growth, serving our customers with innovative product solutions and the manufacturing capabilities to meet our commitments,” Wendy Tirollo said.
The current phase of the Legacy plan focuses on facility and capability expansion, with an 13,696-square-foot, two-story addition to TRM’s headquarters opening in October 2020. The expanded space, built by Sullivan Construction of Bedford, NH, is necessary to provide bolstered manufacturing and production capacity in response to increased customer demands and significant company growth. With the expanded space, TRM plans to bolster its workforce, too.
In its 50th anniversary and beyond, TRM is investing in and advancing technologies to serve current and future clients in the critical fields of defense and aerospace.
