(BEDFORD, NH) — Congressman Chris Pappas of New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District met with the leadership team of TRM Microwave on Wednesday, October 21, touring the newly expanded facilities of the defense/aerospace component manufacturer and meeting with its leadership team to discuss the challenges facing small businesses during the pandemic.
“Small business drives our community,” Pappas said during his talk with the team at TRM Microwave. “[My] focus is on the workforce and how we can build it. We’re an older state, and don’t have enough workers to replace those who are retiring.”
Congressman Chris Pappas of New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District speaks with Janelle Gorman, Chief Financial Officer for TRM Microwave, on Wednesday, October 21. Pappas toured the Bedford, NH manufacturer’s newly expanded facilities.
TRM Microwave grew its team of nearly 75 employees during the expansion, but the company is actively seeking fresh talent to grow its engineering and product development departments.
“We have some fantastic engineers right now. I want more,” said Shaun Moore, Chief Technology Officer/Applications Engineer for TRM. “We build highly-customized components with very specific requirements. We work with customers on a daily basis to find the best solution for their challenges. That’s why we’ve been successful.”
Prior to the pandemic, TRM Microwave hosted student groups to give them an in-person understanding of working in the manufacturing industry. TRM also offers paid internships for high school and college students.
TRM Microwave has expanded its facility and workforce in 2020 after breaking ground on the 13,696 feet of new construction in April 2020. Janelle Gorman, Chief Financial Officer for TRM Microwave, praised the Small Business Administration programs offering financial protection for small companies during the pandemic.
“I think the support [from those programs] was really helpful, and we’re currently looking at a second round for those who need help,” Pappas said.
